PMMA Entrance Exam 2023: Requirements & Coverage

The PMMA AY 2024 – 2025 (CLASS 2028) is now open for applicants who want to be a part of the long blue line-PMMA.

PMMA stands for Philippine Merchant Marine Academy. It is the only premier state maritime institution in the Philippines. PMMA offers merchant marine-related degree courses, as well as short-term training and re-training of marine officers and rating seamen. It is the home of the future maritime leaders of the merchant marines, navy, or coast guard.

PMMA midshipmen are government scholars, who are provided free tuition fees, board, and lodging, and have assured shipboard training onboard international vessels during their third year with the corresponding stipend.

Upon graduation, PMMA midshipmen are assured of a 100% employment rate and are the usual choice and preference of major global shipping and manning companies for assignment to International Ocean going vessels as deck officers and engineers.

PMMA midshipmen are selected from all over the Philippines through a rigid selection process. Out of average examinees of 6,400, about 5% successfully pass the different stages of the screening process and subsequently take their oath as full-fledged PMMA midshipmen.

With a government scholarship, you’ll be able to experience a unique semi-military lifestyle in a leadership environment. The leadership and training experiences you’ll receive will be incredibly rewarding, and you’ll have the opportunity to travel the world for free while still a cadet.

As part of the scholarship, you’ll be guaranteed shipboard training onboard international ocean-going vessels. This experience will give you an edge over others in the maritime industry, and will also make you an automatic commissionship in the Philippine Navy and Philippine Coast Guard as Ensign (2Lt).

As you progress through the program, you’ll have the opportunity to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in a maritime-related field. With a 100% employability rate, you’ll be immediately hired by more than thirty (30) partner international and manning companies.

The promising careers available to you in the seafaring industry are endless. You could become a master mariner, chief engineer, shipping executive, naval or coast guard officer, or even an educator or trainer in maritime-related industries/institutions.

This government scholarship is an incredible opportunity for those passionate about the sea and maritime industry. With the chance to travel the world, gain invaluable experience, and earn a degree, the possibilities for your future are endless.
