According to Forbes, seventeen Filipinos were included in Forbes Billionaire 2021 List and the wealthiest among them is Manuel ‘Manny’ Villar. Forbes reported Villar’s net worth at $7.2 billion through his real estate business. Villar is the chairman of Vista Mall, Golden Bria, Vista Land and Landscapes, and AllHome Corp.

- Hans Sy – $3 billion
- Herbert Sy – $3 billion
- Andrew Tan – $3 billion
- Harley Sy – $2.7 billion
- Henry Sy Jr. – $2.7 billion
- Teresita Sy Coson – $2.7 billion
- Elizabeth Sy – $2.4 billion
- Tony Tan Caktiong and Family – $2.4 billion
- Ramon Ang – $2.2 biliion
- Inigo Zobel – $1.4 billion
- Lance Gokongwei – $1.2 billion
- Roberto Ongpin – $1.2 billion
- Ricardo Po Sr. and Family – $1.1 billion
- Edgar Sia II – $1.1 billion
If you take a look at the list only a handful of them are not Filipino-Chinese, most of them are Filipino-Chinese Businessmen. Nonetheless, we have Manny Villar a pure Filipino who’s on the number one spot because of his real estate business. Some naysayers said that his wealth explodes especially when his son DPWH Secretary Mark Villar headed the said department because most of his real estate is connected to the Highways from the ins and outs of the subdivision.
You can’t deny the fact that his long-time hard work had paid off because of his mantra “Sipag at Tyaga.” Not only is he a former Senator of the Philippines but also the number one real estate developer in the country. His wife is a current Senator of the Republic of the Philippines trying to make her mark as a legislator of the country that empowers women to do more.
Some of the Billionaires are in the business of creating Malls, Fast-food chains, Airlines, Ports, beverages, Banking, etc. These noteworthy businesses are SM Malls, Ayala Malls, Jollibee Corp., Philippine Airlines, CTSI ports, San Miguel Corporation, and the sort. Tech giants like Smart Communications and Globe are nowhere to be found maybe because the profit share is not enough to make the CEO’s and Presidents of such companies worth them a billion dollars. But I think they are not far behind and maybe closing in as so far as profit is a concern.
Yearly Forbes is laying out the list of the top billionaires in the world and in the Philippines, most of the personality on the list is the same with one or two new billionaires making to the top list. It only says one thing that the rich are getting richer as time goes by. The only notable new person on the list is Edgar Sia who made the Mang Inasal chain success and later on sold to Jollibee Corporation a notable sum of money with the option of having stocks in the company. That’s where the majority of his money came from.
In this time of the pandemic, we only wish to have that kind of money, but they deserve whatever wealth they have right now because that is the result of hard work and perseverance.
