DepEd is eyeing to hire Learning Support Aides to support teachers as well as parents in the delivery of basic education services in the distance learning set-up. This is to address the issue of learners having no one to facilitate distance learning at home.
What is Learning Support Aides LSA?
LSA refers to individuals who qualify in assisting teachers to provide learning opportunities using various learning delivery modalities in promoting achievement and progression of learners.
Why need to hire Learning Support Aides?
According to DepEd, the rationale in hiring LSA includes:
- To support teachers and parents in the delivery of basic education services to the learner in this time of new normal.
- To tap potentially qualified individuals among households within the community.
- To reinforce and render assistance to schools and community in the implementation of BE-LCP.
Scope of Work
Learning Support AIdes are expected to:
- Guide learners and households on the chosen learning delivery modalities.
- Render assistance to the teachers in the lesson preparation and delivery.
- Monitor and track learner’s progress and achievement.
According to Undersecretary for Planning and Bureau of Human Resource and Organizational Development Jesus Mateo:
Mateo added.
Who can apply as Learning Support Aides?
Usec. Mateo said that school division offices (SDOs) will prioritize the hiring of teacher applicants for the school year 2020-2021 who are not given permanent or provisional appointments due to lack of available plantilla items.
If there will still be positions left for LSAs, the division offices will issue a call for applications. Those who passed the Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET) in the locality, and displaced private school teachers can also apply as LSAs, Mateo said.
Other qualified individuals who may apply as LSAs, according to Usec. Mateo, include:
- LET passers in the locality; private school teachers, especially those who were displaced and have lost their livelihood due to the pandemic; and provisional teachers whose contracts were not renewed.
- Senior High School graduate or must be at college-level for at least 2 years. Experience, training, and eligibility are not required for the post unless they would apply for a permanent teaching position.
- At least 21 years old but not more than 59 years of age.
- Preferably resident of the community or barangay where the school is located.
- other preferred qualifications set by the School.
LSA will be hired under contract of service and will be employed for a period of at least 6 months subject to renewal.
