NAPOLCOM approves 17,314 new recruitment of PNP cops

According to the press release of the NAPOLCOM website, The National Police Commission (NAPOLCOM) approved the recruitment of 17,314 Patrolmen and Patrolwomen to replenish personnel losses, increase personnel strength, enhance police visibility, and improve the police-to-population ratio and peace and order condition in the operational areas covered by the respective Police Regional Offices (PROs) and National Support Units (NSUs).

All of the 17,314 will be distributed all over the country on different departments of the police force. The 1000 Regular recruitment quota shall be allotted to the National Capital Region Police Office.

While NAPOLCOM Vice-Chairman and Executive Officer Vitalliano Aguirre II said that the 16,314 is intended for Attrition Recruitment to replace uniformed personnel losses due to separation from the service (retirement, designation, death, dismissal from the service, and absence without leave). Aguirre further said that the screening and selection committee, including the head and members of the secretariat, are required to strictly follow the existing rules and regulations of the recruitment.

Distribution of Recruitment Quota in National Support Units

For the NSUs, following is the allotment of the attrition recruitment quota for the 1st and 2nd cycles: Anti-Cybercrime Group (ACG)- 200; Communications and Electronics Service (CES)- 350; Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG)- 200; Crime Laboratory (CL)- 500; Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Canine Group (EOD/K9) – 100; Health Service (HS)- 500; Headquarters Support Service (HSS)- 150; Intelligence Group (IG)- 100; Legal Service (LS)- 100; Maritime Group (MG)- 1,000; National Police Training Institute (NPTI)- 250; PNP Drug Enforcement Group (PNP DEG)- 514; PNP Retirement and Benefits Administration Service (PRBS)- 100; Police Security and Protection Group (PSPG)- 150; Special Action Force (SAF)- 100; and PNP Training Service (PNPTS)- 150.

This is to strengthen the police force in combating crimes and criminals all over the Philippines. The police visibility is a very important factor in so far as the crime goes because it will lessen the possibility of committing such acts because they see that there are police officers roaming the city streets. The likelihood that a sudden act of offense will be committed is slim to none, with the exception of those hardened criminals who plan a crime beforehand with the possibility that they will succeed but a strong possibility also that they will be caught.

The police to population ratio is also important because it entails that a lesser people to watch for every police officer the more effective that they can prevent illegal act to emerge. The criminals will second thought any unlawful act if they knew there are certain police forces in such areas of concern.

This is also in connection with the police losses from retirement or from death in operations. Now more than ever we need police forces to watch over people especially in this time of the pandemic. We knew all along that our citizens are hard-headed in so far as the covid19 virus is concern. Most people are still not following correct standard protocols such as social distancing, face masks, and face shields to minimize the risk of getting the virus. The people prefer to do whatever they wanted because they are getting bored inside their houses. Do you remember the resort that opens and a lot of people went swimming without regard to safety protocols? The only reason they have to such action is that they are already bored in their homes that’s why they want to enjoy. So we need a lot of police for that kind of selfish act to continue to pursue the flattening of the curves of the covid19 virus.

We hope all the police officers who will be recruited will have the proper wisdom to abide by the laws and continue to do a great job in helping people.
