Starting July 1, Students will get a free ride on selected railways. Department Of Transportation announced that they will be offering free rides for students on MRT 3, LRT 2, and PNR rides on weekdays except for holidays.
What is the Schedule for free rides?
The Schedule for free rides are as follows:
Metro Rail Transit Line 3– runs from North Avenue in Quezon City to Taft Avenue in Pasay City.
The free ride is from 5:00 am until 6:30 am and from 3 pm until 4:30 in the afternoon.
Light Rail Transit Line 2– runs from Recto Station in Manila to Santolan Station in Pasig City.
The free ride is at 4:30 am to 6:00 am and 3:30 pm to 5:00 pm
Philippine National Railways– runs from Malabon to Taguig for the north commuter and from Tutuban, Manila to Calamba, Laguna for the south commuter.
No fees at 5:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m for students.
The free rides are for weekdays exclusive of holidays.
What are the other privileges for students?
Aside from the free rides on railways, students will also be exempted from terminal fees for 40 Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines-operated airports and Seaport fees owned and operated by the Philippine Ports Authority. The exemption from Airport fees will start in August while in Seaport will be on July 16.
Who is eligible?
All students can avail the free rides up to college level, as well as those taking up vocational and technical courses.
Students taking up Masters and doctorate degrees, however, are not included.
How can I avail of the free rides?
To be able to avail the free rides students must need to apply for a “Student free Ride ID”. Students must submit identification photos, school identification cards, and certificates of enrolment when they register online.
But since DOTr still working on the process of registration, school IDs will be enough for the meantime to avail the free rides.
