Duterte extends State of Calamity throughout the Philippines until Sep 2021

President Rodrigo Duterte extends the State of Calamity throughout the Philippines for a period of one year. The extension was recommended by the Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council.

Proclamation No. 1021

Under Proclamation No. 1021, which was released by the Malacañang, the extended state of Calamity will take effect starting on September 13, 2020, to September 12, 2021, unless lifted earlier or extended as circumstances may warrant.

The extension is said to effectively afford the National Government and the Local Government Unit to continue utilizing appropriate funds in their response to contain the spread of the virus, monitor and control prices of basic necessities as well as provide basic services to the affected population.

All government agencies and LGU’s are enjoined to continue rendering full assistance to and cooperation with each other and mobilize the necessary resources to undertake critical, urgent and appropriate disaster response aid and measures in a timely manner to curtail and eliminate the threat of COVID 19.

On March 8, Duterte first placed the country under a state of public health emergency afterward declared the six-month State of Calamity on March 16 with the increasing number of cases of COVID 19.

On the other hand, Bayanihan 2 or the Bayanihan to recover as one act was also signed by the President last week with 165.5 billion budget allocated for health care, cash subsidies for vulnerable households, loans to affected sectors, and many more.
