National Commission for Senior Citizen now a law

Another law was signed by President Duterte to protect the rights and welfare of Senior Citizens.

Republic Act No. 11350 or the National Commission of Senior Citizen provide services beneficial to Seniors.

About the Commission

The commission is composed of the Chairperson and six commissioners.

The chairperson will be responsible for implementing the policies, rules regulations, and directives of the Commission.

The commissioners will represent different regions of the country wherein they will hold office on their respective region. They will meet at least once a month.

The members of the Commission must be at least 60 years old at the time of their appointment. Experience in the affairs of the Senior Citizen is a must.

Functions

  • The commission shall ensure the full implementation of laws, policies, and programs of the government pertaining to Senior Citizens.
  • Formulate policies for the promotion and protection of the rights and well being of the Seniors.
  • Conduct information, education, and communication campaigns to raise awareness of the Senior Citizens.
  • Establish and maintain cooperation and consultation with LGU and national government agencies all matters pertaining to Senior Citizens.

DSWD will hand over all of the functions, projects, and activities for the formulation, implementation, of social welfare development policies and programs for the poor, vulnerable Seniors to the National Commission of Senior Citizens.
