CSC Discontinues Fire Officer Exam After June 2026: What FOE Passers and BFP Applicants Should Know

The Civil Service Commission (CSC) has officially discontinued the Fire Officer Examination (FOE). The June 7, 2026 FOE was its final administration, following CSC Resolution No. 2601044, promulgated August 4, 2026. The CSC announced the decision on October 1, 2026.

Is the Fire Officer Exam discontinued?

Yes. The CSC approved the Department of the Interior and Local Government’s request to stop administering the separate Fire Officer Examination. The decision followed an assessment that the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) now has an adequate pool of qualified eligibles and improved recruitment capacity. The final FOE was held on June 7, 2026.

Are previous FOE passers still eligible?

Yes. The CSC explicitly confirmed that Fire Officer Eligibilities already earned—including eligibility from the June 7, 2026 examination—remain valid for life. The discontinuation does not cancel existing credentials.

Can you still apply to the BFP?

The discontinuation applies to the CSC’s separate FOE, not to BFP recruitment itself. Prospective applicants should follow the BFP’s current recruitment announcements and verify accepted eligibilities and qualification standards for each position. See our BFP Fire Officer I recruitment guide for background; always confirm current openings and requirements with the BFP.

Why did CSC end the FOE?

According to the CSC, the FOE was introduced in 2005 to help build an eligibility pool for the BFP. After subsequent recruitment reforms and years of examinations, the DILG concluded that a standalone FOE was no longer necessary. CSC Resolution No. 2601044 also repealed earlier FOE resolutions, Nos. 050944 and 1202190. The CSC says the new resolution takes effect 15 days after official publication; the announcement alone should not be used to calculate an exact legal effective date.

What should aspiring firefighters do now?

  • Do not rely on older FOE filing schedules as an upcoming examination.
  • Monitor official BFP recruitment notices for Fire Officer I openings and accepted civil service eligibilities.
  • If you already passed the FOE, keep your eligibility documents; the credential retains lifetime validity.
  • Consult the historical FOE schedule and requirements guide for previous exam details, clearly marked as historical.
