Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program Act now a Law

Poverty in the Philippines has decreased according to the Philippine Statistics Authority. An estimated 21 percent of the population in the first half of 2018 compared with 27.6 percent in 2015.

It is good to know that the Government is taking all necessary efforts to fight off poverty. One of the programs of the government called Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program(4Ps) or Republic Act 11310 change a lot of people’s lives.

What is Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program?

Also called Conditional Cash Transfer. This provides financial assistance to the poorest households in both urban and rural areas for seven years. It aims to improve the health, nutrition and education aspect of the people.

Patterned after the conditional cash transfer scheme in other developing countries, the Pantawid Pamilya provides cash grants to beneficiaries provided that they comply with the set of conditions required by the program.

Started back in 2007 under Arroyo Administration with only 6000 household beneficiaries. Then the Aquino administration expanded it in 2016. It benefits more than 4 million households nationwide.

And finally with President Rodrigo Duterte who finally signed it into law last April 17, 2019.

This will benefit a lot of people including farmers, fishermen, homeless families, indigenous people, household living in isolated and disadvantaged areas including places without electricity.

Qualifications

To be able to be qualified in the program, you must be classified as poor and near poor by the Philippine Statistics Office Authority at the time of Selection.

You must have family members aged 0-18 years old or pregnant member at the time of registration.

Lastly, you need to comply with the conditions specified by this act.

Department of Social Welfare and Development will be responsible to review qualified beneficiaries using a standard targeting system every 3 years.
