The Taiwanese Ministry of Education (MOE) established the Taiwan Foreign English Teacher Program (TFETP) to increase the number of foreign English teachers and teaching assistants available to Taiwanese students in primary and secondary schools across the country. This aligns with Taiwan’s ambition to establish English as a second language by 2030.
MOE plans to hire 450 foreign English teachers in public schools by 2022 in order to create an English-speaking environment for primary and secondary pupils while also improving the English teaching skills of local teachers.
Salary and Benefits
The program’s monthly compensation for English teachers starts at NT$62,720 (PhP115,122.25). Benefits include a travel subsidy, health insurance, and other perks.
The teacher’s compensation will be determined by his or her highest educational degree and the number of years of full-time teaching experience. Applicants must be native English speakers with a bachelor’s degree or above and have no criminal record to be considered. It is not necessary to have a state-issued teaching license or credential.
How to apply?
Interested foreign teachers should apply online at https://tfetp.epa.ntnu.edu.tw. The 2022 recruitment is open until March 31, 2022, on a rolling basis.
As of December 31, 2021, there were 193 Filipino instructors in Taiwan, according to Taiwan National Immigration Agency figures.
Labor Attaché Bienvenido A. Cerbo, Jr. took advantage of this wonderful opportunity by visiting several public elementary/secondary schools, as well as cram schools in Central Taiwan, where he filed applications for Filipino English teachers and encouraged principals to hire more Filipino teachers in the future.
