The Department of Social Welfare and Development DSWD is the agency responsible for social protection. Thus it is mandated to contribute to and improve the quality of life of the citizens.
However, priority attention is given to the poor, vulnerable, and marginalized sectors of the community.
Who may avail of the DSWD Financial Assistance?
1. Persons/ Families in Crisis Situation needing immediate social welfare development assistance:
1.1 Indigent individuals/families.
1.2 Individuals/ families belonging to the informal sector.
1.3 Other poor, marginalized, and vulnerable/ disadvantaged individuals.
DSWD Requirements for Financial Assistance
1. For Medical Assistance :
- Clinical Abstract/Medical Certificate with signature and license number of the attending physician (issued within 3 months).
- Hospital Bill (for payment of hospital bill,) Prescription (for medicines), or Laboratory requests (for procedures).
- Barangay Certificate/ Indigency and any Valid ID of the client
- Referral Letter (if applicable).
2. For Burial Assistance :
- Funeral Contract
- Registered Death Certificate
- Barangay Certificate/ Indigency and any Valid ID of the client
- Permit to transfer/ Health permit (for transfer of cadaver)
- Referral Letter (if applicable)
3. For Transportation Assistance:
- Barangay Certificate/ Indigency and any Valid ID of the client
- Police Blotter (for victims of pickpockets, illegal recruitment, etc.)
- Referral Letter (if applicable)
4. For Educational Assistance:
- Enrolment Assessment Form or Certificate of Enrolment or Registration
- School ID of the student/ beneficiary
- Barangay Certificate/ Indigency and any Valid ID of the client
- Referral Letter (if applicable)
How to avail?
- Pre-screening of documents and issuance of queue number.
- Registration and encoding in the CrIMS.
- Interview, Assessment, and Recommendation of assistance needed.
- Review and Approval of the Officer-In-Charge to the Social Worker’s recommendation for the assistance being requested by the client.
- Release of Assistance.
Remember processing and requirements may or may not vary depending on the Crisis Intervention Unit (CIU) branch near you.
Processing Time
1. For cash outright assistance- a maximum of 45 minutes per client.
2. For issuance of guarantee letter (assistance not more than P5,000.00) / referral letter- maximum of 45 minutes per client.
3. For issuance of guarantee letter (assistance more than P5,000.00)- within the day to 3 days.
4. For the processing of check assistance- within 3 to 5 days.
