Davao City Scholarships now open for application

The City Government of Davao’s Educational Benefit System Unit (EBSU) has announced the start of its scholarship program for School Year 2022-2023. Interested applicants should apply between June 15 and June 24, 2022. The Scholarship is for deserving students who intend to proceed to tertiary education under the Government Scholarship on Tertiary Education Program (STEP) or take up medical courses under Medical Education Assistance Program or law courses under the Law School Assistance Program.

SCHOLARSHIP ON TERTIARY EDUCATION PROGRAM (STEP)

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS

To qualify for the Scholarship Program, a student should possess the following qualifications in order to qualify in either category.

  • Must have a General Weighted Average grade in K12 (1st & 2nd Semester) of at least 93%
  • Must be a resident of Davao City;
  • Should be of good moral character;
  • Must belong to an indigent or below-average income earning family, as pre-determined by the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO)
  • Must be a graduate of any public secondary or private schools in Davao City: 6 Must not be a recipient of any scholarship/financial aids/grants from any government agency, non-government agency, foundation, and the like except for academic
  • scholarship granted by the school for honor students;
  • Only one (1) child per family can avail of the scholarship;
  • Shall enroll in, but not limited to, any of the courses prescribed by STEP, in accordance with the priority programs provided by CHED;
  • Shall enroll in any school in Davao City, duly recognized by the Commission on Higher Education.

DOCUMENTARY REQUIREMENTS

As a basis for the approval of the student’s application for the scholarship program, and prior to the execution of a contract between the City Government of Davao and the grantee, the latter shall submit to the Educational Benefit System Unit (EBSU) Office the following documents, to wit:

  • Report Card in K-12 (1st & 2nd semester) for incoming college freshmen at least 93% Gen. Average (Photo-copy).
  • Transcript of Records for 2nd year to 4th-year college (Photocopy)
  • For ALS Graduate ALS Accreditation & Equivalency Test for ALS graduate (Photocopy).
  • Certificate of Residency from the Barangay where the applicant resides (Photocopy).
  • Certificate of Indigency or Eligibility from the City Social Welfare and Development Office (Photo-copy).
  • Income Tax Return (ITR) of one or both parents (if working) or Certificate of Tax Exception (if non-working) from the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR). (Photocopy).
  • Certificate of Good Moral Character from the school where the applicant graduated (Photocopy).
  • 1 piece 2×2 picture of the applicant.

MEDICAL AND LAW EDUCATION ASSISTANCE PROGRAM

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS

To qualify for the Scholarship Program, a student should possess the following qualifications in order to qualify in either category.

  • Must be a resident of Davao City.
  • Must be a bonafide graduate of any Bachelor’s Degree in any University or College;
  • For those entering the first-year class, the candidate must have an average grade of 85% or its equivalent with no grade below 75% in any and all subjects comprising the candidate’s Degree course;
  • For those entering the second year to fourth year class, the candidate must have an average grade of
  • 77% or its equivalent with no grade below 75% in any subjects in both semesters of the immediate preceding year level (for example, 1st year for incoming 2nd-year student);
  • The candidate must be physically fit and must be of good moral character;
  • Must be in need of financial assistance evidenced by a Statement of Assets and liabilities (for applicants with parents working with the government) and/or Income Tax Return of the applicant’s parent or legal guardian, and Certificate of Indigency or Eligibility (per E.Q. No. 25, series of 2011) and family Data Sheet from CSWDO;
  • Must not be a grantee of any scholarship grant, financial assistance, or any aid from any government. non-government foundation and the like; and
  • Must not have a parent or sibling who is already an existing grantee of any scholarship from the City Government.

DOCUMENTARY REQUIREMENTS

As a basis for the approval of the student’s application for the scholarship program, and prior to the execution of a contract between the City Government of Davao and the grantee, the latter shall submit to the Educational Benefit System Unit (EBSU) Office the following documents, to wit:

  • Transcript of Records (Photocopy) with no failing grades.
  • Certification of General Weighted Average at least 85% from the school where the applicant graduated.
  • National Medical Admission Test Result for Med applicant.
  • Philippine Law School Admission Test (PhilSAT) for Law applicants (optional).
  • Certificate of Residency (Photocopy).
  • Certificate of Admission from the Davao City-based Medical and Law school.
  • Certificate of Good Moral Character (Photocopy).
  • Medical Certificate issued by a government hospital.
  • Statement of Assets, Liabilities, and the Net worth of applicant’s parent or legal guardian where available.
  • Income Tax Return of one or both parents (if working) or Certificate of Tax Exemption (if non-working). (Photo-copy)
  • Certificate of Indigency or Eligibility from City Social Welfare and Development Office (Photocopy)
  • Certification from the Medical and Law school that the applicant has not availed of any other scholarship grant offered by or administered by the school.
  • A sworn statement that the applicant has no parent or sibling who is already a grantee of any scholarship from the City Government.
  • 1 piece 2×2 i.d. picture.

Print and Fill-up the application form and follow the instructions below:

A. All documents shall be submitted at the designated EBSU Drop Box located at the tent in front of the City Planning and Development Office on or before June 24, 2022, from 8:00 – 5:00 PM.

B. All documents shall be fastened together in a long Violet folder with your printed name at the side portion of the folder, following the sequence of documentary requirements as above written. Incomplete requirements shall be automatically disregarded.

C. Result of qualified applicants shall be posted on the City Government of Davao FB page on or before the end of August 2022.
