Civil Service Exam in the Philippines is for all people aspiring to be an employee of the government. It is a way of screening and selecting prospective civil servants in the country.

If you plan to land a stable job in the government what you need to do first is to know if you need to take the Examination for eligibility administered by the Civil Service Commission. Unless if you are in one of these categories which makes you exempted from taking the exam.

Can I take the exam even without a college degree?

Even if you don’t have a college degree, you can still take the civil service exam. Non-degree holders are not barred from acquiring Professional Eligibility, which is appropriate for positions in both the first and second level. However, in order to qualify for a vacant job position, job applicants must be able to meet all the qualification standard of the position.


Qualifications for Civil Service Exam

You have to meet these qualifications to be able to apply for the exam.

  • Filipino Citizen
  • At least 18 years old on the date of filing of application
  • Of good moral character
  • Has not been convicted by final judgment of an offense or crime involving moral turpitude, or disgraceful or immoral conduct , dishonesty, examination irregularity, drunkenness, etc.
  • Has not been dishonorably discharged from military service, or dismissed for cause from any civilian position in the government,
  • Has not taken the same level of Career Service Examination either through PPT or CSC Comex within three months before the date of examination.

Types of Exam for Eligibility

The level of exam you should take depends on which type of eligibility you want to acquire.

Civil Service Eligibility Subprofessional

Subprofessional Exam earns you a Civil Service Sub-Professional Eligibility.

It makes you qualified to enter the first level of government service.

Some example includes positions like Administrative Aide and Assistant, Cash Clerk, Food Drug Inspector, Human Resource Management Assistant. All work requiring only less than four years of college studies.

Civil Service Eligibility Professional

Professional Exam earns you a Civil Service Professional Eligibility.

It makes you qualified to enter both the first and second level of government service.

The second level covers work requiring at least four years of college studies.

The type of job you can apply for are Administrative Officer, Services Officer, Cashier, Food and Drug Regulation Officer, Human Resource Management Officer.

If you are a college graduate then I advise you to take the Professional Exam. As this will give you an edge since you can apply for both first and second positions.

1. Paper and Pencil Test(CSE PPT)

This is a manual examination which happens twice or thrice a year. The method to answer the exam questionnaire is by shading your answer.

2. Computerized Examination(CSC COMEX)

In computerized Examination, you have to register online on the comex website, set a schedule and appear on the day of exams with the necessary documents. The method to answer the exam questionnaire is via the computer.

The scope of the examination depends on the eligibility you are taking. Professional level tends to be harder than the sub-professional.

The number of items in the Professional Exam is 170 items in which you have to finish within 3 hours and 10 minutes.

In Sub-professional Exam the number of items that you need to answer is 165 within 2 hours and 40 minutes. Both the test proper starts at 8 am.
